Title: USB to Ethernet demo questions
Post by: dannyc on October 22, 2008, 10:05:41 AM
We’re looking for a solution to sharing a number of USB software dongles over Ethernet to Windows Server 2003 x64 servers running in VMware.

We require data encryption and access control (even down to simple passwords on shared devices) and have tested the demo version of USB to Ethernet Connector 3.0 and found the implementation of these features suitable.

However, I have a couple of additional questions that are probably raised by the Demo version:

1.      If we restart the server sharing the USB devices, no client can connect to any device until someone logs on at the console of the server, starts the USB to Ethernet Connector applications, and clicks the Demo button. In the purchased version are USB devices automatically shared when the server starts, and without needing anyone to log on at the server’s console?

2.      Similar to above. On client machines, remotely shared USB devices weren’t available to the logged on user until they ran the USB to Ethernet Connector application and clicked the Demo button. Will the retail version remove this requirement and mean users can just log on as normal, and the remote USB devices are automatically connected to?

3.      Although I said users in the last question, in actual fact the end users will be software applications – some which run without any logged on user. Does the “client” reconnection to remote SUB devices still work before anyone is logged on?

Answers to these questions greatfully received.
